Pembroke Crusaders v. Sanguin Corsairs
« am: Juni 30, 2020, 22:35:31 »
Bringing massive momentum having secured a play-off berth, the Sanguin Corsairs carry a huge following and high expectations.  To balance the books following a number of injuries, the Pembroke Crusaders were forced to call in stalwarts Zug and Karla to bolster their ranks.

Winning the toss, the Crusaders elected to receive and were immediately pressured by a blitz.  Recovering well they worked the ball upfield, with the (blodge) runner finally falling to a strong (2 dice) block.  The ball balooned free on the resulting play and was thrown - 10 and then 8 - squares over the endzone and to the other flank.  Lineman Urlokh, who was seriously injured 2 games back against the Bengals, recovered the ball and launched a sharp throw towards the Witch Elves.  Ever hungry for glory Azodash called for the ball - crossing himself for the score on the half-time whistle.

The Corsairs wasted no time on the restart to make it 2-0.  Witch Elf Hapefri the benefactor this time of a crisp pass and hand-off going coast to coast.

On the restart the persistant and galliant Crusaders worked their play forward once again, also incorporating a few fouls here in there (perhaps collecting a bribe from rival teams).  Again the Corsairs made the key play, and looked confident to move the ball with ease.  Hapefri again picking up the touch down thanks to a selfless assist and a gutsie spurt of speed at the death (2 GFI, no reroll to score).

It could have as easily been 4-0 when the Corsairs, launched a second blitz with time on the clock.  However the coach was clearly tired as he did not position a player under the ball (Hapefri caught it anyway on the bounce, of course) and left the possible receivers just out of range.  Aside from that momentary lapse it was a complete performance.

Urlokh's performance was particularly noteworth.  The dark elf made a key assist, spent most of the game tagging the Mighty Zug and drew a false block (2 dice reroll into skulls) from Karla.  With his combination of weakened physique and steelly experience, he's been earmarked for retraining to the position of Assassin ahead of the forthcoming play-off match against Voodoo in just a few days.

Corsairs take out the win 3-0, close the division 5 points clear of their nearest rivals and roll on to greater glory.
